Nicola McDermott

Photographed by Christian Zedler

At 8 years of age Nicola McDermott dreamed of one day becoming the first woman in Australian history to jump higher than 2 metres. After 16 years of training at the age of 24 she was able to reach her dreams and become the first to clear the 2m barrier. Later in the year, she then continued to win a Silver Medal in the Tokyo 2020 Olympics clearing 2.02m.

The progression to higher heights became a journey of overcoming fear, as she had to learn to embrace her identity outside of sport to overcome fear of failure, rejection and comparison in order to reach her full potential.

Nicola has a passion for teaching others how to overcome their fears and encourage them to never give up on pursuing their dreams, no matter the cost.
